The Elingamite left Sydney for Newcastle on 2nd November and returned on 4th November. On the 5th November the Elingamite left Sydney bound for New Zealand ports. On board were 136 passengers and 57 crew along with cargo of gold, silver and copper worth £17,320 belonging to The Bank of New South Wales for its New Zealand branches.

At 9 a.m. on Sunday November 9th the ship sailed into a dense fog, her engines slowed to half speed. The ship struck the middle island of the Three Kings Group at about 10.30 a.m. and immediately boats and rafts were launched. 1 boat and 1 raft were lost at sea with a number of crew and passengers losing their lives.

The crew listed below sailed on the ill-fated voyage. Those marked with an asterisk were also from the voyage above. Of these there were 3 confirmed deaths and 9 missing presumed dead.

Modifications made to scans: In some instances, text was enhanced - there was still an occasional name or list which defied this effort to read it; the Master's signature is usually found at the bottom right corner of the page; some pages have been shortened; excessive black markings have been removed. The last two mods. were to enable the fastest possible display in your browser.
