*** Joachim GATTA, the first indigenous man from the Pacific to become a Roman Catholic priest. He left Futuna aboard La Vire 24/08/1875 for New Caledonia. A newspaper article on Trove indicates that the vessel was in Fiji by 1/09/1875. Gatta arrived at Meeanee, Napier, New Zealand 8/10/1875.
